Eight people rescued off Sligo coast after dive boat capsizes

DUBLIN, Ireland - In a rescue operation that took place in the sea off the coast of co Sligo after a dive boat capsized, eight people were rescued by the Coast Guard.

According to reports, the Malin Head Coast Guard received a mayday call at 11.24 am on Sunday about a boat that capsized in the heavy seas.

The Sligo Bay RNLI lifeboat crew that were on a training exercise in the area, arrived at the scene at 11.43 am. 

The crew rescued all eight people from the water, off Aughris Pier, east of Sligo town on a lifeboat. 

Reports noted that one man was airlifted to hospital by the Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118.

The man is said to have suffered a head injury. 

Seven others were taken to Aughris Pier and two more men were taken to the hospital from there.

The lifeboat crew is said to have then returned to the scene to tow the vessel back to the pier.
