Rescue operation for diver is on in Donegal

DONEGAL, Ireland - The Coast Guard Rescue helicopter, based in Strandhill, Sligo, and the Lough Swilly RNLI lifeboat were involved in an operation for the search of a missing diver.

The search, that also involves a number of local boats began about 27 km north of Fanad.

The diver who went missing is believed to be one of a number of divers who were diving in wrecks in the area and was reported missing to Malin Head Coast Guard.

The man reportedly went missing shortly after 2.30 pm when he was diving with a group 14 miles north west of Mallin Head.

Group members on a dive boat reported him missing after failing to see him resurface and the Sligo-based Rescue 118 helicopter was sent to the scene and an emergency Mayday call was put out to vessels in the area.
