I'm not homophobic: Brian McFadden
Ireland News.Net Wednesday 20th August, 2008 (IANS)
Irish pop star Brian McFadden has hit back at claims he is homophobic, insisting that his comments on a radio show have been taken out of context.
According to contactmusic.com, the former Westlife star prompted outrage from gay groups when he poked fun at men who wear pink during an interview on New Zealand's radio channel More FM.
MCFadden joked: 'If you are not gay, a man should not be wearing pink. Saying pink is a form of red is the same as saying homosexual is a form of male.'
His comments led to pro-gay activists attacking McFadden, calling him a 'homophobe'. The singer is now fighting back, claiming there's no way he's anti-gay.
He said: 'To come to the conclusion that I am homophobic from these sentences is far from the truth. Some of my friends and colleagues are gay and if I was truly homophobic then I have picked the wrong industry.'
McFadden's former Westlife bandmate Mark Feehily is homosexual.
