Galway road collision: Man in his 50s killed

GALWAY, Ireland - Gardai in Galway have launched an investigation into a fatal road accident that took place on a rural road in Kilclooney near Ballinasloe on Sunday.

In the incident that took place on the Bog Road to Ahascragh, a car crashed into a pedestrian, killing the man instantly.

Gardai said that the incident occurred at around 7 pm and emergency services pronounced the victim - a man in his 50s - dead on the spot.

The man's body was removed to the University Hospital Galway.

Gardai said that they are investigating the crash, adding that the driver of the car was uninjured.

Following the crash, the stretch of road was closed for an examination by the Garda Forensic Collision investigators.

Local diversions and road closures, that had been put in place, have since been removed.

Gardai are now appealing for witnesses.
