CORK, Ireland - A tragic road collision on the N27 Airport Road in Cork left a pedestrian with fatal injuries on Saturday morning.
The victim, a man in his late 40s, was reportedly struck by a car on the the N27 Airport Road shortly after 5.30 am.
The man is said to have suffered grave injuries and emergency services pronounced him dead on the spot.
Gardai confirmed that they had launched an investigation into the collision.
Officials also said that the driver of the car was arrested at the scene of the road collision.
He has been detained at the Togher Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Following the incident, Gardai closed the N27 Airport Road for a forensic examination.
Local diversions were put in place.
Subsequently, the man's body was shifted to the Cork UniversityHospital where a post-mortem has been scheduled to take place.
