DULBIN, Ireland - The Motor Insurer's Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) will now place strict implementation on punishments for uninsured drivers caught causing accidents.
According to the MIBI, some of the punishments will include debt repayments or seizure of assets. In the event that the uninsured driver cannot pay, he or she will be forced to do a bankruptcy filing or possibly face imprisonment.
The MIBI also stated that they will impose stricter rules and regulations on debt recovery. This will enable them to raise €1m per year for the next four years. This will help MIBI settle costs incurred as a result of accidents involving uninsured drivers.
That said, MIBI Chief Executive David Fitzgerald further stated that MIBI will now put more emphasis on debt repayment activities instead of just handling claims. The new direction will enable the organization to work more efficiently in reclaiming damages from guilty parties, he said
