CO. CORK, Ireland - A woman is her 30s was arrested on Friday by Gardaí investigating the murder of Mikolaj Wilk that occurred in Ballingcollig, Co Cork on 10 June last year.
The woman is the third person to be arrested in connection with the murder.
She is currently detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
The particularly gruesome murder involved the storming of the home of Wilk, a 35-year old man who had moved to Ireland from Poland. He was married and was a father of two. The men who invaded the family arm were armed with machetes and they proceded to attack and virtually butcher the man. Gardai have said the murder was possibly a case of mistaked identity, and Mr Wilik may not have been the target.
A man also in his 30s that had previously been detained in Gurranabraher Garda Station has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The other person of interest in the case, a man in his 30s, is still in custody at Togher Garda Station.
Gardai say that investigations are ongoing.
