CO. TIPPERARY - A chance stopping of a van by a Gardai patrol on Monday afternoon has led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of drugs worth an estimated550,000.
Another21,000 in cash was also seized.
Garda in Killenaule, Co Tipperary have since launched a wider investigation following the arrests and seizures.
The drama began when Garda were on patrol in Ballinure, Co Tipperary at around3.45pm on Monday afternoon. Officers attempted to stop a van, however the van failed to stop. As the van continued on its way officers noticedtwo packages being thrown from the vehicle on to a field.
The van stopped a short distance away and the driver and a passenger, a 45-year old man, and a 22-year old man were arrested. The two packages were retrieved and found to have contained Ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of 150,000.
Gardai then conducteda number of searches at residential addresses in the Cashel and Killenaule areas and during the course of these searches, Cannabis Herb with an estimated street value of 400,000 and 21,000 in cash were discovered.
The two men arrested are currently detained at Thurles Garda Station while the wider investigation continues.
