DUBLIN, Ireland - An Indian family vacationing in Ireland has been racially abused on a train from to Dublin due to their skin colour, accent, and nationality. A drunk man was the accused.

Prasun Bhattachrjee was with his family, trying to enjoy their three-day vacation in Ireland but was confronted with this unwelcome racial abuse. The family endured an hour-long outburst and verbal abuse against their skin colour, accent, and culture by a drunk man who sat beside them on the train. He even told them to return to their country.

Mr Bhattachrjee said that no one tried to stop him but appreciated how other passengers were cordial and apologetic after the torrent of verbal abuse. The train guard came along to order the man to sit down but did not take any action in relation to the abuse. Some passengers said they believe that the security guard could have done more.

The incident resulted in a call from the Immigrant Council of Ireland, suggesting how the community needs to develop a more proactive approach to combat racism.
