CO CLARE, Ireland - A cold murder case dating back to 2006 has had a breakthrough.

Garda investigating the murder of 19-year old Aidan Kelly on 10 May 2006 at Blackwater, Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare, have arrested a man in his late 30s.

He was arrested Tuesday morning and is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station.

Aidan was shot five times in the head and other parts off his body at Blackwater on 10 May 2006. A rifle was recovered at the scene. Aiden is understood to have been lured to a meeting, after his van was stolen some days earlier and was later found torched.

Aiden was living with his girlfriend Nicola Sopp, who was expecting a child 3 weeks after his death, at Moyross in Limerick City.

The man in his 30s arrested on Wednesday is the first person to be arrested as part of the investigation.

Garda investigating the murder are asking anyone who has information, no matter how insignificant they may think it is, to contact Henry Street Garda Station on (061) 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
