CO CORK, Ireland - A man in his 40s has been killed in tragic circumstances in a sequence of two road traffic incidents on Monday.

The man was driving on the N27, Main Cork to Kinsale Road around 1:15pm Monday afternoon when his car left the road and struck a ditch.

The apparently shocked and dazed driver then managed to free himself from his crashed car, and then walked into the path of an oncoming truck. The man was killed instantly.

The driver of the truck was uninjured but was treated at the scene for shock.

Garda forensic collision investigators conducted a examination of the scene and the road has since re-opened.

Garda are appealing to any road users who travelled on the road prior to either incident and may have dash cam footage, to contact Togher Garda Station 021 4947120 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
