CO TIPPERARY, Ireland - A man who allegedly threw a firearm and ammunition from his car while being pursued by gardai on Thursday night has been charged.
He was scheduled to appear before Nenagh District Court on Saturday evening at 6:00pm.
The pursuit by gardai began in Co Limerick late on Thursday night and ended just before midnight in Co Clare.
During the chase a number of objects were thrown from the car being pursued. These later turned out to be a firearm along with a number of rounds of ammunition.
The pursuit was carried out by uniform garda from Mayorstone Park Garda Station who were on patrol in the Ballynanty area of Limerick. The patrol attempted to stop a car being driven at high speed through a number of housing estates.
The pursuit, which gardai described as a 'managed containment operation, was carried out with the assistance of the Armed Support Unit.
The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, when he eventually stopped in the Parteen area of Co. Clare just before midnight, was arrested by gardai.
The car that was used during the incident was seized and the man was taken to Henry Street Garda Station where he is currently detained ahead of his court appearance at Nenagh District Court on Saturday night.
