CO MAYO, Ireland - Garda Shane Nallen who is stationed at Westport Garda Station, in Co Mayo, is on a mission.

The young officer is in the final week of a four-week 300km run in a major effort to raise funds for a wheelchair-bound youngster from his home town.

Grace Walsh, who celebrated her 9th birthday last week lives in Belmullet, a coastal Gaeltacht town with a population of around 1,000 on the Mullet Peninsula in the barony of Erris, County Mayo.

Grace suffers from a number of conditions that require 24-hour care.

Shane, who was born in Belmullet, is raising money to upgrade Grace's wheelchair-accessible vehicle and improve her sensory garden.

He has been running 10km per day since 7th May and will finish the race on Friday.

So far, he has raised an astonishing €34,221.
