DUBLIN, Ireland - Garda say they have been made aware of a recent smishing scam where customers are contacted by a text message falsely claiming to be from their bank.

These messages contain links which connect customers to fraudulent websites designed to imitate bank websites, and trick customers into making payments or providing personal information or other security details.

"We would remind the public to never respond to unsolicited messages and never follow links received through these types of messages," a gardai statement said.

"Remember, your bank will never text or email you asking for personal, login or card information."

If a member of the public receives any texts like this, gardai say they should report the matter to their local Garda Station or to the Garda Confidential line on 1800-666-111.
