Irish manufacturers doing it tough during pandemic

CORK, Ireland - Production in Manufacturing Industries for May 2020 was 10.5% lower than in April 2020, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said in an announcement on Monday.

On an annual basis production for May 2020 was 11.6% lower than in May 2019. Industrial production in Manufacturing Industries for the three months March 2020 to May 2020 was 10.4% higher than in the preceding three month period.

The "Modern" Sector showed a monthly decrease in production of 10.9% in May 2020 and an annual decrease of 4.7% when compared with May 2019. There was a monthly decrease of 5.6% in the "Traditional" Sector for May 2020 and an annual decrease of 27.1% compared with May 2019.

The sectors which saw the largest increase in production in the month to May 2020 were Other non-metallic mineral products (69.0%) and Wood and wood products, except furniture (62.1%).

Turnover decreased by 2.6% for Manufacturing Industries in May 2020 when compared with April 2020. On an annual basis turnover increased by 2.6% when compared with May 2019.
