CO MAYO, Ireland - A young woman and middle-aged man arrested on Friday night after a substantial drug seizure in Co. Mayo have been formally charged.

The couple were taken into custody following a search of a home in Ballina, Co. Mayo, shortly after 8:15pm on Friday night.

During the search, officers discovered and seized an estimated €80,000 worth of cannabis.

€3,500 in cash was also confiscated.

The man arrested, who is aged in his 50s, and woman, who is in her 20s are being detained at Ballina Garda station. They will appear before Ballina District Court, Co.Mayo on 9 March 2021.

Investigations, gardai say, are ongoing.
