CO OFFALY, Ireland - Gardai probing the murder of Ashling Murphy, 23, in Co Offaly, has stated that "no stone would be left unturned" in their investigations.
A man in his forties is still being held in connection with the murder of the primary school teacher who was attacked along the banks of the Grand Canal at Cappincur around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
At this point, they claim, there is "no evidence that the victim and her killer knew each other."
After two women witnessed the attack, the offender escaped. The women were able to provide garda with a comprehensive description of the offender.
According to the Garda, the suspect is well-known to them and suspected of involvement in previous violent episodes.
Ms. Murphy's body was transported from the site to the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore late Wednesday night.
A traditional musician from a musical family, she was well-known in the midlands and music circles across the country.
Over 50 garda officers and experts from national specialty units, including the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, have been assigned to the investigation.
