CO LAOIS, Ireland - After a spillage Wednesday afternoon, the main street of a town in Laois was covered in what is believed to be excrement.

The incident occurred in Mountmellick when a lorry carrying waste from a treatment plant overturned at a town junction.

Images in the local paper show large amounts of waste covering the road, footpaths, and shopfronts where the incident occurred.

Laois County Council has yet to confirm to the Irish Mirror what type of spillage it was, but it is believed to be human faeces - and those who were present reported a strong odour.

Councillor Paddy Bracken, who witnessed the waste on Mountmellick street, said it happened around 2 p.m. and was quickly cleaned up.

"It was a truck coming from the treatment plant that spilled over at the junction," he explained to the press.

Bracken said he wasn't sure what the waste was but had been told it was human waste and that it smelled.

According to Laois County Council, the spillage occurred this afternoon and has since been cleaned up.
