DUBLIN, Ireland - Gardai are gravely concerned for the safety of an 18-year-old boy who has been missing for more than a week and believe his life is in danger.

Officers and local river rescue members searched the Drogheda area for Josh Markey but were unsuccessful. The youngster was last seen in the Rathmullen Park estate in the early hours of last Monday morning and has not been seen or heard from since.

This is the same area where another teen, 17-year-old Keane Mulready-Woods, was kidnapped and brutally murdered three and a half years ago as part of the town's notorious drug feud.

Senior Gardai are concerned that Josh has been kidnapped, but there is no evidence.

"This kid has just vanished off the face of the earth," a source said. We are concerned that something terrible has happened to him.... It is not in his nature to vanish in this manner. His family and friends have not heard from him. We are all concerned and worried. Anyone with information should contact us right away."

Josh wore a grey Under Armour tracksuit the day he went missing.

In recent months, there have been severe criminal incidents in Drogheda, including arson attacks on houses and the discovery of a pipe bomb at the home of a businessman.

Gardai has asked anyone with information about Josh's whereabouts to call Drogheda Garda Station at 041-9874200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666111, or any Garda station.
