Tragic Road Death in Galway, Woman in Her 80s Dies

CO GALWAY, Ireland - Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 80s died in a single-vehicle road traffic collision in County Galway on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:15 p.m. on the Rooaun road in Eyrecourt. Emergency services, including local Gardaí, responded to reports of the crash, but the woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, where a post-mortem examination is expected to take place. The results will help determine the course of the ongoing investigation.

The road at Rooaun iwas closed to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions were put in place.

Investigators are particularly keen to speak with any motorists or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Eyrecourt between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. They are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or other camera recordings from the area during that time to come forward.
