Pedal cyclist dies after colliding with van on N25

CO CORK, Ireland - A pedal cyclist has been killed after colliding with a van on the N25 at Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday night.

Emergency responders were called to the scene following report of the collision, which occurred eastbound on the N25 at around 5:00pm Wednesday evening.

The pedal cyclist, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to the mortuary at University Cork Hospital  where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver of the van, a man aged in his 60s received treatment at the scene.

The road was closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and remained closed overnight to allow the examination to take place Thursday morning.

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the area between 4.30pm and 5pm Wednesday, are asked to make this footage available to investigators.
