Man dead after being knocked down by car in Waterford

CO WATERFORD, Ireland - A man in his 40s was killed Sunday when struck by a car.

The fatal crash took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. It took place on the R448 in Sallypark, Waterford, Co. Waterford.

Garda and emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 2:10am Sunday.

The man struck by the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Coroner was notified and a post mortem examination is expected to take place in the coming days

The road on the R448 from Rice's Bridge to the New Rath Road roundabout, remained closed Sunday while local diversions were put in place. The Garda Forensic Collision Investigators were brought in for an examination of the scene.

In the meantime investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling on the R448 between 1:30am and 2:15am are asked to make this footage available to investigators Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
