Investigation opened into Saturday's death of pedestrian in Co Kildare

CO KILDARE, Ireland  - A man in his 50s has died after being struck by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning in County Kildare.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:25 am on Saturday, in the Mylerstown area of Robertstown.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead there. His body has been removed to hospital where a post-mortem will be conducted at a later date. No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed for a period to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened to traffic.

An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is now underway. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly those who were travelling in the Robertstown area between 5:00 am and 5:45 am.

They are also urging anyone with camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from that time frame to make it available to investigators.
