Donegal mourns death of two teens after car collides with lorry

CO DONEGAL, Ireland - A major investigation is underway in County Donegal following a fatal two-vehicle road crash that claimed the lives of two teenagers late on Tuesday night.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision on the R236 at St. Johnston shortly after 11:15 p.m. The incident involved a lorry and a car.

A youth passenger of the car, aged in his late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later removed to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital.

A second teenager, also a passenger in the car, was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry but was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the car, who is also aged in his late teens, sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was initially taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. His condition has not been disclosed.

No other injuries were reported following the collision.

Post-mortem examinations are scheduled to take place to establish the exact cause of death for the two victims. The Coroner has been officially notified of the fatalities.

Investigating Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak with any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of St. Johnston between 10:45 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday night.
