TULLAMORE, Co Offaly, Ireland - Gardaí have seized an estimated €545,400 worth of suspected cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy following a targeted search in Tullamore on Tuesday.
The operation, carried out as part of the nationwide anti-drugs initiative Operation Tara, saw officers from the Tullamore Community Engagement Unit, the Offaly Drugs Unit, and the Tullamore Detective Unit search a premises under warrant.
During the search, investigators uncovered 7.5kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of approximately €525,000. A further 1kg of cannabis, valued at €20,000, and ecstasy tablets worth around €400 were also seized.
A man and a woman, both aged in their 40s, were arrested at the scene in connection with the investigation. They are currently being detained at a Garda station in County Offaly under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, which allows for extended periods of detention for serious drug offences.
The seized substances have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for confirmatory analysis.
Gardaí confirmed that investigations are ongoing. No further details about the location of the search or the identities of those arrested have been released at this time.
Operation Tara, launched in 2021, is a national strategy focused on disrupting drug trafficking networks at every level, from street-level dealing to international organised crime.
