DUBLIN, Ireland: Noise experts are conducting inspections at the Hoxton Hotel in Dublin after the hotel complained that late-night music from the adjoining nightclub was driving away its clients.
The Hoxton Hotel, which used to be the Central Hotel on Exchequer Street, said it has had to close 31 rooms after guests complained about noise from the Yamamori Izakaya restaurant and its nightclub/late-night bar.
The hotel is asking the court for an order to reduce the noise, but the court said a hearing can only happen after the rooms have been inspected.
The other side disputes the hotel's claims, arguing that the real problem is the building's design and poor soundproofing. The hotel reopened in November after major renovations to the old Central Hotel.
The case has been delayed several times while both sides have discussed how to properly measure the noise.
On April 16, a lawyer for the hotel's operators, Trinity Hospitality Ltd, said the issue of expert inspections had now been settled, with both sides arranging their own inspections. He asked for a hearing date later this month.
However, the defendant's lawyer said their expert would carry out inspections on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights this week and next week. Until those are finished, the request for a court order will not be ready for a hearing.
He also said they strongly disagree that many rooms are affected, as there has been very little testing so far. He added that they believe the building itself has a problem, which they had already pointed out, and that the hotel has now accepted that inspections are needed.
He said both sides are cooperating, but there could still be issues with the inspections.
Judge Oisín Quinn said the test results must be presented to the court and postponed the case so it can be given priority when setting a hearing date.
