DUBLIN, Ireland: Gold bullion seized from a Kazakhstani drug gang operating in Ireland is being auctioned by An Garda Síochána.
The main person in the group fled after being granted bail and remains missing, even though he faces 10 charges in Ireland, according to The Irish Times.
His wife and mother-in-law, who the court was told were scared of him, were sent to jail for their role in the gang's activities.
Gold worth 1.4 million euros was seized during intelligence-based searches in Dublin in 2024 by the Dublin Crime Response Team.
An online auction of the gold, organized by Wilsons Auctions for the Irish police, opened at 1:00 pm on April 17 and will close at the same time on April 20. The items can be viewed on the company's website.
Detective Inspector Ken Holohan from Dublin said that recovering money from crime is an important way to fight organized crime. He added that the auction ensures the seized assets are handled transparently and that the money will go back to the State.
