DUBLIN, Ireland: Gardaí in Dublin have seized nearly 185,000 euros in suspected counterfeit 50 euro notes during an operation carried out late last week.
The discovery was made after officers executed a search warrant at a property in Dublin 8 as part of ongoing investigations into organised crime. In total, 3,695 fake 50-euro notes, worth an estimated 184,750 euros, were recovered.
The suspected counterfeit cash has been sent to the Garda National Technical Bureau for examination by experts in the Document and Handwriting Section.
No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation continues.
Gardaí warned that the fake notes could have caused significant financial losses, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses, ahead of the busy shopping season. They urged retailers to be cautious if someone attempts to pay for a low-cost item with a large note to obtain genuine cash as change.
The public—especially business owners and staff—are advised to watch for counterfeit notes of any denomination and to keep the note and contact gardaí if one is presented.
